Welcome to the new TraillWorks
I cannot wait to share my new space with you firsthand. Hopefully you'll be able to visit either at Saturday's open house, or attend my private VIP party on April 24th. It feels so good to be able to breathe! Though I haven't gotten to the easel yet as I'm still organizing and putting stuff away, I am getting itchy to paint and can't wait to see what emerges.
In just a month at my new location at 214 Spring Street, I've
already initiated several changes and expansions to what I was able to
offer at my old space. With an additional 1000 square feet, the
possibilities, shy of building a welding studio, are endless.
Here's
a sampling of what's new:
- New logo
- Expanded gallery space
- A mixed-use lesson and gallery space
- My own studio!
- Jewelry
The added, segmented space along with some beautiful display cases have
permitted me to finally represent several jewelry artists who hand
fabricate both silver and glass, something I've wanted to do for awhile.
Read below to learn more about the artists and their jewelry.
Lessons have grown in scale, too! I am now offering small group
lessons for an affordable price and can accommodate groups of three and
four very comfortably. So far I'm teaching two groups of three and will
be starting a group of four next week. Space is limited so please get in
touch now to ensure a space! Download a new tuition pricing form here.
Introducing Hand-Fabricated Jewelry
I've always had an interest in interesting jewelry, thanks to my mom, and now
I'm able to share with you the work of three very talented and different jewelry artists now being represented by TraillWorks.
Marty Traill Schaeffer, otherwise known as "mom" to me, graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in art education with a focus in metalsmithing. After a thirty-year hiatus, the artist is making jewelry again, with her debut at TraillWorks. While she is still experimenting with techniques and materials her interest lies in textured spheres, whether bowls, rings, or organic drops of silver, that accentuate natural stones and beads where incorporated.
From $20 - $110
Meet Marty on Saturday from 1 - 4pm at the TraillWorks' Open House
Bernadette Blaney, owner and designer of Glassical, has been working and growing with glass for over ten years. Her work fuses Dichroic glass into exquisite pendants, brooches, earrings, barrettes and cufflinks. If you visited 214 prior to TraillWorks, you may know of Bernadette's work. She is the former owner of Radiant Essentials which used to occupy my location. She's known around Newton as "The Glass Lady".
From $18 - $95
Liesl Carlson, of central Mass, took many classes in various forms of art and craft. She took her first jewelry making class in 2005 and then quickly joined the Professional Craft Studies Program at the Worcester Center for Crafts. Liesl then moved to Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton NJ, where she took jewelry workshops and worked for Judy Neugebauer. Liesl has been in many exhibitions including Craftforms and most recently New Jersey Arts Annual Craft. She has appeared in many publications, most notably 30 Minute Earrings from Lark Books due out in July 2010. Her jewelry, influenced by the snow-covered New England landscape, focuses on the play of texture and reflection on the silver.
Web Site Updates
I'm working on a few major, long overdue changes to traillworks.com. Though it's not a complete redesign, and will not yet include my new logo, it will include a lot of current information.
Change of Hours
I've been working on changing the day I'm closed from Wednesday to Monday. It's not solidified yet, but watch for news soon. |

A Day in the Life of Newton
2nd Saturday, April 10th
Photographers
will be roving throughout all of Newton on Saturday, April 10 as
members of the Sparta Camera Club cover recreational events,
businesses, historic sights and anything else that strikes them as a
"picture perfect" moment in a day in the life of the town. Main Street
Newton has organized this day-long event that culminates with an
outdoor revolving slide show exhibiting the photographs from the day. "Like other 'Day In The Life' events taking place across the country
and around the world, we hope this show will capture the today's Newton
- a mix of both the historic and current vibrant life of the Town,"
said Jim Sheldon, Executive Director of Main Street Newton. Businesses
and townspeople are asked to be open to participating and having a
moment of their day photographed if approached. The slide show will
begin at 6 and run until 8pm.

Looking Glass Project
Stop by TraillWorks throughout the month to see my arfully designed window display. Phil DeMauro, under the supervision of SCCC professor, Suzanne McKeel, designed the spring-themed window artwork, taken from something inside TraillWorks. Phil was assigned my window as part of The Looking Glass Project, a partnership between Main Street Newton, KKPR, and Sussex County Community College.
Stroll Spring Street, pick your favorite window and receive a 15% off coupon valid at participating merchants. Find out more about the Looking Glass Project here.
