New to TraillWorks, associate Corrie Guddemi will begin teaching "Art as Therapy" lessons on Sundays and Mondays.
"Simply put, the act of creation is power. Each time a brush stroke is laid down,
a piece of clay formed, a pencil mark made, something original is born. A child is born an artist. It isn't until they grow up that they
become afraid of their ability.
Art can not be graded. Art
cannot be contained. Art is for
everyone." Corrie Guddemi
Corrie Guddemi uses a therapeutic approach to teaching art. Students
come to each lesson with a willingness to explore their potential through
creative arts. "Art as therapy" is based upon the belief that creative acts
can be healing. It can help people
express hidden emotions, reduce stress and anxiety, and provide a sense of
freedom. Students are given tools needed to
produce paintings and drawings as well as many other forms of artwork. Corrie works individually and
alongside each student, in order to engage, model and, and encourage
communication. Corrie is not a
therapist. She is a trained
artist, whose goal is to improve the lives of people in her community through
art and education.
Mrs. Guddemi has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree
from Syracuse University, and has studied abroad in Florence, Italy. She has
professional experience teaching art to Autistic Children and Youth while the Art
Coordinator at Allegro Schools and Programs. In addition, Corrie has worked as
a Youth Advocate with The Youth Advocate Programs, inc., and has incorporated
art in her teaching at Pre-Schools and Elementary schools in Vermont and New
Jersey.
For more information,or to register for classes you can reach Corrie in person or by phone at TraillWorks (973) 383-1307 on Thursdays and Saturdays or email her at Corrie@TraillWorks.com.
