Wedding Cake Commissions

October 2, 2010, Oil on Canvas Panel, ©2011 Jennie Traill Schaeffer

Ever the busy bee, Jennie continually finds time to make dreams come true through her Wedding Cake Portraits. The piece above was recently finished and looks stunning to say the least. The word 'breathless' comes to mind when thinking of Jennie and the past few weeks. Returning from Italy, her wonderful son Joel, getting ready for the artist reception for the 1st Annual Women's Invitational Exhibit and the screening of Who Does She Think She Is? as well as the mural for St. Joseph's! Yeah I think the word 'breathless' fits here.

She's going to be starting a new Wedding Cake Portrait soon, so follow her on Facebook to watch the progress of each painting from sketch to completion.

As we all know, back in the beginning of September, Jennie went on a trip to Italy for her very good friend Roopa's wedding. Roopa and Jennie lived together in Florence while studying abroad in 1999, attending Syracuse University and have been close friends ever since. Jennie had the honor of being a bridesmaid for Roopa, which thereby permitted her to wear a sari, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. She had an absolute blast while she was there, and we've yet to see all of the photos.

Even during all of the wedding events and then travel, Jennie found time to paint. The piece above was one of the first to be completed while sitting at the villa in Tuscany where Roopa married. To read about and see more of her artwork made in Italy, Monaco, and a brush with Cezanne in Provence, check out her most recent blog post.

Welcome Alyse

Meet Alyse! One of two new interns here at TraillWorks that started in September, Alyse is attending ESU and spearheading the planning of "Good Things, Small Packages," the Traillworks holiday exhibit. Alyse met Jennie about a year or two ago and since has decided to pursue an art career more seriously. It was then that Alyse thought TraillWorks would be a great place to start and Jennie was excited to have her on the team, as am I. So best wishes to Alyse!

The First Annual Women's Invitational Exhibit is underway and the play reading was a huge success, but there is still more to come. Paul Meacham of Tri-State Actors Theater was promoting a play  about a woman  going through life which sparked the idea in Jennie to create a show full of women artists. Several guest artists, as well as a few new artists, selected by Jennie, have been creating artwork that interprets "Hope Throws Her Heart Away" by Susan Goodell. The exhibit runs September 17 to November 5 with an artist reception on October 15th, from 5 to 8PM. To learn more about this exhibit and its companion events visit the TraillWorks' site.

Hope Throws Her Heart Away
The Recap

"Hope Throws Her Heart Away", a play by Susan Goodell, was preformed right here in TraillWorks on September 24th as the first companion piece to the First Annual Women's Invitational Exhibit. The play is about a woman named Hope growing up from a feisty child, to a compliant young adult to, finally, a self-contented woman. Hope was portrayed by three separate women from the Tri-State Actors Theater who all did a fantastic job. The whole evening was packed with great fun and we look forward to having more events much like this one.

Who Does She Think She Is?
Film Screening & Benefit

Who Does She Think She Is?, a documentary by Academy Award winning filmmaker, Pamela Tanner Boll follows five women and the intersections of life they come to when refusing to chose between being an artist or family. A screening and  artist panel companion event for the First Annual Women's Invitational Exhibit. The panel will include Jennie Traill Schaeffer, Amy Brooks, and Joann Wells Greenbaum from this exhibit talking about their lives as mothers and artists. Visit their site for more info. Admission by donation.

Donations to this event will go to Birth Haven, a local shelter dedicated to helping young mothers. These donations can either be monetary or baby needs. If you choose to donate baby needs it must be new, not even used once. After seeing the film "Who Does She Think She Is?", Jennie saw many similarities between the film and Birth Haven. The most prominent of which was women making hard choices for the betterment of their future.

apatite, tiger eye, peridot, fire agate, wool and horn necklace, ©Andrea Rosenfeld, $289
Andrea Rosenfeld, of Wickatunk, NJ, creates one-of-a-kind and limited edition sculptural art jewelry that can release stress and negativity, increase creativity and good physical health and stimulate love, weight loss and more. Jennie took the opportunity today, given her outfit, to wear one of her necklaces made of apatite, tiger eye, peridot, fire agate, wool and horn. Each of these stones has specific properties, detailed below.

Apatite enhances creativity, truly awakens the finer, inner self. Successfully produced hunger suppression, Tiger Eye helps one to see a problem objectively when confused or emotionally affected, Peridot counteracts negativity and opens the mind, Fire Agate represents the spiritual flame of absolute perfection. It is also a stone to encourage one to be the best possible.

I can't say if Jennie did actually take on these qualities while wearing it, but it did look fabulous! I had to remind her to take it off before leaving. VIEW her pieces available at TraillWorks.

Sterling Dragonfly Pendant, ©2011 Martha Traill Schaeffer, $110
Martha Traill Schaeffer has also brought in several new works. Among them are a few stunning sterling silver dragonflies. The dragonfly symbolizes change and change in perspective and self-realization. It is a source of mental and emotional maturity leading to a deeper understanding of life. These dragonflies and other works were created by Martha specifically for the First Annual Women's Invitational Exhibit interpreting the play Hope Throws Her Heart Away by Susan Goodell. Along with the dragonflies Martha's new pieces feature beach stones, crystals, and copper. You can check out more of her work here on Facebook.
