TraillWorks Newsletter: Our FINAL Workshop, Last Chance SALE and a Thank You!

Enrollment Ends SATURDAY for Woodblock Printing with
Amanda Gordon Miller

Saturday, March 23rd | 1 - 6pm
Have you ever enjoyed the experience of carving, inking, and then printing a wooden image? Not only is there the satisfaction of the process, but the element of surprise is fulfilling as well.  Woodblock Printing with Amanda Gordon Miller will introduce you to the delights of an age-old art.

During the workshop you will create a line drawing on wood, then carve away the negative space to produce a bold, linear "key block". You will then transfer the design to a second block to carve and add color. Printing techniques will be introduced as well as instruction on using non-toxic Akua inks. The woodblocks can then be used to print an edition or experiment with color variations.

Amanda and I attended Syracuse University together; she was a very talented painter. We didn't keep in touch, but about two years ago, I found her on Facebook and she has been exhibiting at the gallery since. Her work moved in the direction of printmaking when she had children, as a result of looking for a process she felt she could handle at home. She now is a resident artist in the Howard County Center for the Arts and teaches art and design at two community colleges in Maryland. I highly recommend this workshop for anyone looking to learn a new medium or gain insight into a process they've worked with in the past.

Thank You!
Farewell Party & 5th Annual Student Exhibit this past Saturday.

Thank you to the many people who came out to celebrate with me on a very special occasion on Saturday. It was my last party at 214 Spring Street, along with my last student exhibit in the gallery. I was surprised by the number of people who turned out and by the sentiments shared by so many. It was a great evening and I'm honored to have shared it with so many special people. In particular, my son, Joel, and husband, Lee, who have supported me in so many ways since the very beginning; my mom whose jewelry I've sold for three years; my sister who has been a great listener and cheerleader; my in-laws for their enthusiasm. Between artists, students, business owners, and clients, there are too many to mention individually. If you haven't had a chance to stop by, please do so by 3/30. I'll be open regular hours, though may have to close one day next week as we move to our new home in Short Hills. Any closings will be posted on Facebook and our web site.
