Catch me in Sussex County this Year! Get your Hands Dirty: Explore Drawing / Painting in One of Two Workshops
Dear ,
I've been away from Sussex County now for almost a year. The time has flown by, and while I know my relocation has been a blessing, I still miss you! But I'm
pleased to tell you that I've maintained connections with many people up there and am scheduled to teach two workshops this year in my old stomping grounds! Hopefully we will have an opportunity to wither see each other or work together again or for the first time. I've been teaching lessons on Saturdays in my home studio, TraillWorks on the 3rd Floor, since September and look forward to spending some time in northwestern NJ. To learn more about the workshop opportunities, see

DRAWING REFLECTIONS Tuesday, March 18th at Teen Arts, Sussex County Community
College
1st Workshop 9:30 - 11am 2nd Workshop 12 - 1:30pm Room R 105
Reflections are all around us: on technology, utensils and
glasses, mirrors, in liquids. Artists throughout art history have explored reflections on many levels: including Ingres, Chardin, Vermeer, Manet, Monet, Homer, Thiebaud, and Fish, to name a few. Using objects from our daily lives as well as photo references for subject matter, we will explore how to simplify and render complicated reflections on a variety of surfaces. Upon completion of the workshop, you will leave with a large artwork filled with studies of reflective drawings. Drawings will
be executed with pencil, charcoal, and pastels.
***This workshop is only open to those teens selected by their schools to attend Teen Arts. If you're a former student and are planning on attending the event on Tuesday, please email me so I can look for you! *** PAINTING THE TEXTURE OF TEA August 15 - 17 at Peters Valley Craft Center, Layton,
NJ
In honor of Tea Week at Peters Valley we will use this storied drink as the subject of our paintings. The trappings of tea make excellent surfaces to explore texture, reflection, color, tone and composition through paint. Beginners will learn to see and simplify the complex shapes created by reflective surfaces and experienced painters will hone their observation, color mixing, and application of paint. We will
explore some of the history of tea in art and consider how to create meaningful contemporary paintings featuring the centuries-old beverage. The workshop will be taught in oils without the use of solvents, but students who prefer acrylic will be welcome as well. Due to the lack of proper ventilation, we will use alternative methods or cleaning brushes and a direct painting technique which avoids the use of solvents.
