First Dibs on New Works, Plus an Early Holiday Pop Up Show {THIS WEEKEND}

Contemporary Artist & Art Teacher Jennie Traill Schaeffer
Dear ,

I was just having a conversation with an old friend about whether or not I was doing too much. She said something along the lines that if it was too much, I would know. I'm not sure I agree with her because I am one to involve myself in a lot, and I toe the line on this constantly. Case in point, all that's going on this month! I cannot keep up with the ideas, events, and marketing. So, below is a long newsletter of exhibits, exclusive purchasing opps, awards, and reminders for placing upcoming holiday orders.

Thank you for supporting me in recent shows and commenting and sharing about me on social media. I hope you get out to enjoy the deliciously warm weather and maybe pop in to see me this weekend in South Orange, my second home.

Creatively,
Pop Up Shop in South Orange, Friday 10/21 & Saturday 10/22

Join me this Friday (7:30 - 10pm) and Saturday (10am - 6pm) for a pop-up boutique and family event, Shop and Play, at Work & Play in South Orange, featuring free craft chocolate, wine, and food tastings, local artisan wares for sale, live music and more! SOMA's very own Marry the Sea Indie band will kick off the festivities on Friday at 8:15pm.

On Saturday, Work & Play will also run special weekend kids classes (starting at $5) like The Little Moving Artist (10am), Outdoor Workshop (11am), Tinkering Studio (2pm) and Family Sing-a-long with Miss Nina (4pm). Registration for the classes is strongly recommended.

Plus, Work & Play is kicking off a donation drive for Support the Girls, a non-profit collecting bras and feminine/personal hygiene products for women and teens who are homeless, victims of domestic violence or are struggling to take care of their families. We are accepting new or gently used bras (any kind), sealed packages of tampons or maxi pads and unused personal hygiene products. Learn More.

EXHIBIT NEWS: Three Works Just Accepted INTO
Three of my paintings have been accepted into two shows at the newly opened Emerge Gallery & Art Space in Saugerties, NY. Emerge is owned and managed by Robert Langdon, former Director and Curator of Gallery U in Red Bank and Westfield, NJ. The gallery focuses on highlighting the creative talents of emerging artists from the Hudson Valley region and beyond. I had the opportunity to exhibit with Robert at Gallery U and am thrilled to be a part of this new space.

One piece, Ms. Farberware in Tafetta, will be in the first show, "Petit: a group exhibition of smaller art," opening on Friday, November 4th, from 5 - 9pm. I'm planning to road trip to the exhibit. If you are in the Hudson Valley area, please stop by. If not, they do plan to be filming the show on Facebook. And, the two other small works will be in a show opening in January, more to come later.

NEW WORKS: First Dibs
As promised, you are the first to have a stab at three new small works: "The Last Piece of Honey Cake," "Storm on Gilbert," and "The Last Blend," completed over the past couple of weeks. You have 24 hours in which to purchase, as a subscriber to my list. After Wednesday night, I will be opening up these three works to my social media followers. If not sold, they will be available this weekend at Shop and Play. Purchase links, along with more information about the pieces, are below each individual work.

GOOD NEWS: I won 2nd Place at the Maplewood Art Walk
Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth at the Maplewood Art Walk on 9/25. I was completely taken aback when the organizers of the show came by towards the end of the day with red ribbon in hand to honor me with 2nd Place in show. Jurors were Tricia Laughlin Bloom (curator of American Art at the Newark Museum), Nigel Freeman (director of the African-American Fine Art Department at Swann Auction Galleries) and Jeremy Shires (illustrator, animator and plein air artist). The award was given both for art creativity and booth presentation. Below is friend, former SU alum and marching band pal, Dan Saland, who is a local stone sculptor and happened to be at my booth when they presented the ribbon.
