As far as Decembers go, this has proven to be the most difficult in my memory. I'm sure it hasn't been what you expected, nor envisioned, as we inch closer to the end of 2020. But, it has me thinking a lot
about seasons, cycles, light and rebirth.
I haven't painted much in the past month for myself, as I've been busy at work finishing commissions, but this Etegami postcard got my attention. It was inspired by the lyrics from "Winter Song" by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson state, and a November trip to our nearby reservoir. The song is melancholy, deep, and rolling in its composition - music I'm commonly drawn to - but at the end it turns, and becomes hopeful. While written in 2008, it seems to have been written for us now. Part of the song suggests a myth about winter:
"They say that things just cannot grow
Beneath the winter snow,
Or so I have been told."
This might be a tough winter ahead of us - but I know that we need dormancy to grow. My hope to you is that you are able to find a way in the winter and through it. My way through is with meditation, exercise,
painting, and rest. I know we might not see each other in person as soon as we'd like, but the light is getting brighter.
We will have summer to look forward to:
Wishing you peace, health, and much love this holiday season! Enjoy Winter Song below.
