Hi there , I just wanted to give

Here's a quick rundown, or you can scroll down further for more information. - Dog Days of Summer are ending, so book your dog portrait now so I can ensure your piece is complete by the end of the year. 10% of each dog portrait will benefit the Animal Protection Society of Durham.

NC schools return on Monday, so I'm trying to keep this brief! One is headed to high school and the other to a new Montessori
school to complete elementary as a 5th grader. Sending you love and hope for the space to find beauty and creativity at this time because I know I certainly need it! Creatively, |
Dog Portrait commissions are open and 10% of the profits of booked portraits in August will benefit the Animal Protection Society of Durham. The Dog Days of Summer are moving out, (hopefully sooner than later) and I want to paint your furry friend in time for giving or receiving by
the end of the year.

Breathing New Life Exhibit Opens
"Breathing New Life" at Durham Bottling Co. (a coworking space in Durham)
"Hay Fever Seat" Oil on Tea Package Image Transfers, 20" x 20", © 2023
"Breathing New Life: A Celebration
of Found and Re-imagined Objects" just opened last week in Durham. Presented by the Durham Art Guild and Durham Bottling Co., it's on view through 9/22 with a closing reception planned for 9/15, from 6 - 8pm. "Hay Fever Seat" is the work included and seen above. Read more about the painting below. ABOUT THE WORK: A suspended yellow chair, representing both hope and comfort, is nestled among the willow branches, defying all odds. Beneath
it, the ground is layered with "Throat Coat" tea packages that I had saved from being discarded. This piece is part of my TeaScape series, which originated from a desire for a more peaceful subject matter and
experimentation with saved tea packages. These packages were too beautiful to throw away and, unknown to me at the time, held significant meaning. As someone who suffers from hay fever and mold toxicity, I often turn to this tea during high pollen seasons. By arranging a grid of tea bags of the same type, I was able to ground and focus my work. Unintentionally, "Throat Coat" tea reminds me of the importance of support as we face the effects of climate change, such as prolonged and intensified
allergy seasons. Please direct additional
questions to me about the work. It is available for purchase through DAG.
Two In-Person Workshops in September
ABOUT: Jennie will guide you through the process of creating a TeaScape in your own style. Using tea packages and tea, you will learn to create a surface using image transfers and tea staining. From there you will layer a watercolor landscape from a place that is significant to you. Students should bring landscape reference photos and a tea of their choice to drink / stain. Hosted by Casa Bella Market, located at 3604 Witherspoon Blvd #105, Durham, NC 27707 WHEN: September 23rd, 3 - 5pm FEE $65 / person (supplies included)
ABOUT: Come and join Jennie for a few hours of painting live in nature, near the Eno River, with your sketchbook. With minimal supplies and plenty of tips and techniques, Jennie will guide you through the process of painting from life. You'll have plenty of time to paint and witness demos, which will help build your confidence when it comes to being in nature. This experience may even change the way you perceive nature forever, or reinforce your love. LOCATION: West Point at the Eno, 5101 N. Roxboro Street, Durham, NC CHOOSE YOUR
SESSION: Sunday, Sept. 24th, 3 - 5pm | Tuesday, Sept. 26th, 10 - 12pm FEE $40 / person OR $75 for both
