Hi there , It's the backside of summer, and no, you haven't escaped me! My summer has shifted gears, after a trip to the northeast to see family and a vacation in the OBX, into prep for teaching Cultural Arts Camp at the Durham Arts Council. This is the first time in almost twenty years that I'm teaching in a more structured school-like environment with a larger population of students. Just like it was when I was a first-year art teacher in NJ, way back in 2001, I'm starting from scratch and spending lots of time researching and planning lessons. Two weeks of Fabulous Finland and a summer cold is in the books. I'm enjoying a slow week of transition getting ready for three more camp sessions - Fantastic Philippines, Marvelous Mexico
and the 1980s! Outside of camp, I also taught a Friday Night Makes workshop, AND started teaching a summer adult watercolor course in person, both at the Durham Arts Council. Some examples of work from camp and adult classes are included below. Suffice it to say, I'm not in art production mode at the moment, but my solo show, "Take a Seat" at The Pocket Gallery in Raleigh is wrapping up this week and a group show, "Making Matters" at Peters Valley in NJ closes
next week. There's still a moment to see the work in person, or collect the work remotely . . . more below. It's all been an invigorating, energizing and challenging change! I look forward to sharing the creativity of my students as the summer winds down, and I'll likely be shifting back to making my own work soon, including a scheduled commission. I'd love to hear what is holding your art making or looking at the moment. Don't be shy - send me a note or connect on socials. Creatively,
