Inside the Artist's Studio... Commissions

Jennie's been busy in the studio since the end of the year, putting a lot of attention on commissioned works. From Christmas gifts, to birthday gifts, and everything in between, the works below are some of her most recent. 2011 is starting with a full calendar of commissions booked already into May! If you're thinking about a custom work, please contact Jennie soon so she can make certain you fit into the 2011 calendar. Continue reading below for the "stories" behind each painting.  Each one is just as unique as the people who commissioned them!

Mangia Italia! Oil on Linen, 16" x 24", ©2010 Jennie Traill Schaeffer,
Private Collection, Completed 12/24/10

The client gave me a photo album of her trip to Italy and mentioned several key memories which I took into account - Mt. Vesuvius, pizza, and the fresh produce available.

In-Progress Painted Tiles to be installed in an Ohio kitchen. 1/6/11
The client already had the center tile of mine, bought several years ago and asked me to design two other pairing tiles for his kitchen renovation. So I've printed a copy of the original tile, and laid the other two flanking it.

(Below)  Completed Commission 1/14/11. I just finished the two end tiles to complement the center tile my client already had and is now installed in his kitchen. These will be drying and then shipped out to Cleveland, OH next week.

Jeffrey, Water soluble Graphite on Arches, 7" x 5",
©2011 Jennie Traill Schaeffer (finished 1/14/11).

My mother-in-law commissioned this drawing for a gift for her very close friend's birthday. This is a portrait of his son who passed away unexpectedly about ten years ago.

Stuart & I were both touched also. As I told Judy you captured it all, even to the crease in his left ear & it makes our hearts smile & ache at the same time. He will treasure it & I can too.
-Anne Meyers

Last but not least is a commission just booked this month. The wedding cake photo above is one of Jennie's loyal clients; she's been teaching their son for several years and have discussed doing a Wedding Cake Portrait in the past. Fortunately it wasn't completed because the client's home was recently lost in a fire. This will be a special painting for Jennie to complete, their wedding album was safe, along with all of the pictures, but her client's wedding dress is gone. While the intent is a Wedding Cake Portrait, Jennie will be incorporating details from the wedding dress as a backdrop. She's done this with a few of her cake paintings, see an example here. Jennie is honored and looking forward to beginning the painting that will recreate some of her client's dearest memories

Press... Jennie Traill Schaeffer gets quoted in Sussex County Magazine!

Last year the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce emailed its members for feedback on how they were using social media in their business. The chamber intended to use some of the responses in an article to be published in the next Sussex County Magazine, and low and behold, they used Jennie's comments! It pays to respond to those little requests organizations ask for. You never know what may get published.  You can read the full article on Jennie's blog.
