Jennie hasn't thrown in the towel yet and doesn't plan on it either! During 2011 Jennie has completed a great many commissions in between a trip to Italy, hurricanes, and freak snow storms... in the middle of fall. Not to mention the St. Joseph's mural, exhibit openings and her wonderful son Joel have all kept her very, very... very busy. Despite that however, her passion for her work has never waned or faltered. The above two wedding cake commissions were completed just in time for the holidays and have been given warm, cozy homes.
VALENTINE'S DAY SPECIAL:
When you commission a Wedding Cake Portrait now through Valentine's Day, get a complimentary set of 6, 4 x 6 Note Cards featuring your painting. Mention this offer when booking. Portraits must be 8" x 10" or larger to qualify. (Commissions are now be scheduled into the summer).
When art and food collide amazing things happen; food is art and art is food for the soul. Already this year, Gallery without Walls owner, Mitzi Brettler, approached Jennie to display her work in Krave
starting in March. This marks Jennie's first solo show at Krave, an artful, upscale restaurant in Newton, though Krave has worked with TraillWorks in the past, providing catering for workshops and exhibit openings. If you haven't been yet, March would be a great month to try out Krave!
End Of the Year Student Work
Below are just a few of the final pieces created in 2011 by the students of TraillWorks. Continue to the "Student Work" album to view all their creativity.
Before you look at the work, we want to congratulate and extend our best wishes to the following students:
Alyse Delaney on her 2nd place in the Ninth Annual Invitational Competition - an exhibition of student artwork in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and crafts, December 7, 2011. Students hailed from Bergenfield HS, Delaware Valley HS, High Point Regional HS, Kittatinny Regional HS, Montville Township HS, Passaic Valley HS, Randolph HS, Vernon Township HS.
Helen Walter-Cardinal as she submits her portfolio for application to architecture school. She's prepared a mature grouping of work in only six months time. Jennie is very proud of the work and creativity she has displayed.
Still Enrolling for Winter Session
Even though the winter session has begun at TraillWorks it's not to late to enroll! It's a great time to enroll considering our upcoming Annual Student Exhibit lined up for March. Make sure to check out our new tuition policy online and keep in mind you can take advantage of open studio for extra work time.
Corrie Guddemi & Kassandra Talmadge
The employees of TraillWorks played an important role in TraillWorks' growth in 2011. Corrie Guddemi, TraillWorks' first employee, started in mid-2010. She was with us until June when she left on maternity leave to have her baby daughter at the end of July 2011. Congratulations goes out to Corrie and her family! While we miss her, we hear she's loving motherhood. Kassandra Talmadge, who started as an intern in the fall of 2010, officially joined the TraillWorks team in January 2011 as graphic designer and sales associate.
Tim Conkling, Ashley Allenfort, Alyse DiBlasio, Janelle Huff
TraillWorks was also fortunate to work with four fantastic interns. First was Tim Conkling, a Graphic Design major from Sussex County Community College who helped Jennie in designing and
publishing a book on Blurb for her Wedding Cake Portraits. Ashley Allenfort, a student at County College of Morris, worked on a variety of
projects, including assisting in the newsletter development, social
media updates and more. Then a double whammy - Alyse DiBlasio and Janelle Huff were here at the same time. Alyse is attending ESU and spearheaded the planning of "Good Things, Small Packages," the TraillWorks holiday exhibit. Janelle Huff, another graphic design major from Sussex County Community
College, focused on redesigning the logos for Jennie's
note cards and finding a new giclée printer for her reproductions. Thank you so much for all you've done and best wishes for your future endeavors!
Special Announcement for 2012
This year TraillWorks has officially welcomed back Alyse DiBlasio as the first new employee of 2012! Her title is Assistant Curator, Marketer and Developer. She will be here on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so stop in and say hello! |

Newton Theater

Among some of the most historic places on Spring Street, Newton Theater certainly ranks very high on the list. Built in 1923 it opened as the most imposing theater east of the Mississippi at the time in 1924, it originally held 1000 seats. Some time later a large wall was added down the center to separate the theater into two movie theaters. Now the middle wall has come down and the theater is now as it once was, restored to its former glory. Jennie has been to three performances already and can't stop raving about it. Check out their Spring schedule on their web site, including Travis Tritt!
In the summer of 2011 PB&J Stores made the big move to this end of Spring Street. TraillWorks is happy
to have Sara and Jim as our neighbor. PB&J Stores sells fabulous fine leather and fun fashion handbags, clothing, and jewelry. They're located at 145 Spring Street, Newton, NJ 07860.
The Plaza
The Plaza, a new restaurant at 118 Spring
Street, opened on October 17th. The Plaza features
breakfast, lunch and dinner with dinner focusing on a Mediterranean
flare on fish and steak. So another tasty restaurant joins us here on Spring Street!

TraillWorks has been extremely fortunate to work with some amazing artists in 2011. Here's just a brief overview of these artists.
Home of the Edamame Press. As a printmaker working from home, Amanda Miller is committed to a nontoxic (or
less toxic) art practice. Discovering this process of experimentation--working with an idea in mind, but
ultimately responding to the materials--is what truly makes printmaking a
passion for her. She is now working with two types of
professional-quality, water-based inks--Akua Kolor, which
contain honey, and Akua Intaglio, which contain soybean oil. Her recent
works include woodcuts and gelatin monotypes (one-of-a-kind prints using
gelatin as a printing surface).
In April of 2011 TraillWorks welcomed Emily Bittner into the fold. Her collections include jewelry, business
card holders, compact mirrors, wine charms, hairpieces, and eye glass holders made from a
polymer transfer technique offering a nod to a treasured past combined
with modern design elements.
Janet Howard-Fatta
Janet Howard-Fatta creates a variety of works from landscapes in oil
depicting place and time, to figurative works in wet and dry media.
Light, color and a love of nature are the driving forces behind her
work. Janet's work reflects a relationship between the world around her
and the painted image. She strives to create a visual representation of
what she experiences through her senses.
Karin Lowney-Seed
Karin Lowney-Seed is an award-winning fine artist with a sharp narrative
style of painting. Her paintings are bold, colorful and confident with a
keen eye for visual balance. There is often a humorous element that
runs throughout her work. If the painting doesn't make you laugh
out-loud it will most definitely provoke a smile.
Lisa Hirkaler
Ceramic and felt artist Lisa Hirkaler creates one of a kind pieces that catch the eye with color and texture. Her pieces evoke curiosity and wonderment with the use of materials and their innocent like quality.
Marie Christine Murphy
Painting since the age of 8, Marie Christine Murphy is always humbled by the work she creates after seeing the progress from her hands, mind and spirit come together. An important aspect to her is color, seeing the layers of color hidden beyond what is shown on the surface. She adores color and finds it to be the common thread that holds all the forms together.

Andrea Rosenfeld
Andrea Rosenfeld joined the TraillWorks family in late August with her Hot Rox collection. A multi-faceted artist, Andrea makes use of a combination of techniques and eco-friendly materials
while placing emphasis on texture, movement, negative space and
playfulness as a main force in her creations. Using Reiki, she instills
in her art her personal message of hope and strength along with the
crystal's ability to increase one's health.
Heidi works on paper, canvas and ceramics. Thematically, her artwork is
focused on the horse, which to her represents movement, freedom and the
transformation of spirit. Her work on ceramics incorporates women and
nature with a free flowing, decorative approach to surface design.
Joann Wells Greenbaum's gouache and ink
paintings are filled with vivid, bold colors. Some have commented tat
her paintings take them to a different place where they experience
happiness and mindful reflection.
Kristin Muller
In
college, Kristin Muller took a ceramics class and quickly became
obsessed with clay.
The plastic nature of the material
to become anything the
maker desires is compelling for her. After earning her Bachelor of
Science degree she became taken with Raku firing. Soon after she began a
pottery business and currently focuses on her studio work also creating
a gallery space for her work called the "Doll House".
Linda Finkelstein
Linda Finkelstein
believes that the creative process is a way to connect to one's heart
and soul. Painting, printmaking, and collage are the avenues she embarks
upon to delve into nature and find imaginary places and creatures. She
is inspired by animals and nature and the artists all around me and the
artist within herself.
Rust photographer Ted
Petrochko got an early start in his photography career with his first
camera, a Kodak Brownie at the age of 7. From there his love of
photography blossomed. Soon discovering the glitter of rust in the sun
Ted's work focused on it's abstract form. Some of his work as been said
to look like a painting and he is happy to blur the line between the two
mediums.
