After having her son Joel in 2008, a great and many changes swiftly surrounded Jennie. Both good and not so good. Business being on the rise while her health was on the decline. Suffering from and attempting to treat her chronic illnesses gave her the feeling of traversing new territory which over flowed into her creativity. Jennie strayed from her usual oils to create the above piece in water colors. Yes, water colors as well as collage. You can read more about her trials of life and absence from her blog here.

For this painting Jennie was fortunate enough to have her subject, Sacco, come into the studio for a visit and photo shoot. Jennie was very pleased with the final version of this piece feeling that being able to take photos of Sacco herself gave her a better result. Summer Session
July 12th - August 27th
Like what you've seen? Summer is a great time to
hone your artistic skills. We offer flexible packages to accommodate
all those vacation plans you've been making! Groups are scheduling now
for summer hours beginning July 12th. There is an option of purchasing
the full seven week package, or a four week pre-pay to use at any time
throughout the seven week session with the option to add up to three

Q&A with Brenda Decker and Liesl Carlson
As promised last month, here is the second set of Q & A, developed by Corrie, with TraillWorks guest
artists Brenda A. Decker and Liesl Carlson.
Q: When did you paint "Graceful morning" and
"Along the Coast"? I couldn't believe they were yours when I saw them,
very different then the gelatin prints I am familiar with! Do you work
in both styles at the same time, or do you go through periods where you
focus on one way of painting?
A:
Those traditional style paintings were done about two years ago. I
work periodically, switching styles as to where my needs take me. Right
now I'm in my "contemporary phase" painting larger format
abstracts with acrylics. I believe that next I will be printing gelatin
plate monotypes. Although all of my styles are different, I approach
them in a very similar manner. My inspiration for all of my work comes
from what I see around me. A peaceful farm scene, colors in nature, an
abandoned building, or just a feeling. The painting process starts with
multiple layers of carefully chosen color. Then many hours of laboring
over the right details, textures or elements, until I'm satisfied with
the result. The gelatin prints are slightly different. The colors and
design are loosely planned ahead. Since it's a monotype, you print once
and marvel at end result.

Liesl Carlson
Q: How do you choose the stones used in your pieces, and do they "guide" the direction of the piece?
A: Well let's see.
Sometimes a stone or object do guide a piece, and sometimes a piece
"asks" for a stone. On my bench I always have stones, pottery shards,
beads, and some hollow form pieces waiting for the right time or the
proper "magic" of the pieces to match up.
Q: What are your future goals/plans for your jewelry?
A: I plan on starting to show in the next year or two. Also I would like to teach. My husband, Steve Butler, and I have formed The Blackstone Valley School of Crafts, a multi-media craft school that is looking for a permanent home; we have several locations in mind. It is all very exciting.

For those of you who have had the opportunity to meet my associate, Corrie Guddemi, you probably know that she is pregnant. If you didn't, well, now you know! And, she is very pregnant, due in about a month.
Corrie has been with TraillWorks since May of last year and has been very helpful in continuing the monthly newsletter, taking on one of my students, and all-in-all helping me to grow TraillWorks from what it was at 135 Spring Street.
Friday, June 24th, was Corrie's last day prior to her maternity leave. Her baby is due in July and we all anticipate finding out if it's a boy or a girl. Corrie will be taking several months off to recover and spend time with her new little one. We wish Corrie and Chris the best of luck, a speady delivery, and a healthy baby.
We'll keep you posted as to the Guddemi baby's arrival!
In the meantime, Kassandra Talmadge, our in-house graphic designer who is already creating most of our promotional materials will be picking up some more hours, directing the development of our newsletter, web updates, among other things.
And, today we welcome our new summer intern, Ashley Allenfort, a student at County College of Morris. Ashley will be here at least through August 27th working on a variety of projects, including assisting in the newsletter development, social media updates and more.

Karin Lowney-Seed: Recent Works
Karin Lowney-Seed has graciously extended her show through the end of summer which we are very excited about. Karin plans to swap out work throughout the summer, for a sneak preview check out her work on Facebook. There's been quite the buzz around Karin's show, and I'm not just talking about bees, so if you haven't come in to see it yet, make a trip to TraillWorks.
Not only is Karin a wildly talented artist, she is also an interior decorator and an instructor at County College of Morris. Her success in all areas, as well as her ability to deeply relate and connect to her clients has caught the attention of a tv producer. On June 10th TraillWorks was fortunate enough to play host to a faux opening of Karin's show to film a pilot episode of a reality series featuring Karin's work with her clients. The episode filmed for the pilot which will be pitched to TLC, HGTV, and Bravo, was based on her work with a Sussex County woman who in the midst of a home redocoration, lost her husband suddenly to an adrenal disorder. Rather than abandon the client, Karin took her under her wings, helped her stage and sell her home in three weeks, redecorate her new apartment, and gave her a makeover. Through it all, Karin was instrumental in getting her client back into society. The pilot featured the client's debut at the gallery, meeting with Karin after having had a full day makeover. - September 24th - Hope Throws Her Heart Away - Performed by three actors playing one person, HOPE THROWS HER HEART AWAY traces a woman's
 emergence from feisty child to compliant young adult to self-contented woman. A staged Concert reading performed by Professional Actors, Talk-Back, and Reception with the Playwright & Actors! (Admission by donation) Times TBD, but likely in the evening.
*** We are also working on a companion exhibition featuring Women Artist's interpretation of Hope Throws Her Heart Away for September/October. Keep in mind this also falls during the 40th Annual Peters Valley Craft Fair at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, Augusta, NJ. More information can be found by clicking here. Saturday, June 18th, Newton celebrated up and down Spring Street with music, food, and demonstration tents. TraillWorks had a tent in front of the gallery where Jennie and silk painter, Phylis Barfoot shared their artistic talents with the public. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, it was a great day!

The Newton Fire Museum opens its doors again this year running May through October with new hours for 2011! To see what its all about check out their website, Newton Fire Museum.
Newton Theatre Grand Opening

To say "Grand Opening" for the Newton Theatre may seem a little off key to some knowing that the theatre has been opened and closed a number times in it's long history but for the first time since it originally opened its doors on May 15, 1924, the wall is coming down. The wall that was built to separate the space into two movie halls has been removed to restore the theatre back to its original grandeur
. The theatre is scheduled to open in September, with ticket sales for the first act opening after the July 4th holiday. To see it and more visit the Newton Theatre site and follow progress on their Facebook Page.
WELCOME to the neighborhood, Sara and Jim. After many months, PB&J Stores is finally moving to its brand new location, at 219 Spring Street, across the street from TraillWorks. Though the facade is not quite finished, the store should be open any day. We'll make the announcement on Facebook as soon as we hear.

On June 25th TraillWorks was proud to host a one day only Trunk Show featuring the jewelry works of Liesl Carlson. Her hollow formed light weight jewelry is pleasing to the eye and fits as the perfect accessory to everything. Her trunk show was a blast and thank you to all who came. With her visit to TraillWorks, Jennie had an opportunity to refresh the collection, so almost everything in Liesl's cases is new. For those of you who missed it you can check out more of her jewelry in person at TraillWorks or on Facebook. We'll post the new pieces on Facebook in the upcoming week. Thank you also to "Art Partner" Trinity Restaurant for providing all the hors d' eourves.
