A Break From Oils
A Pool, Watercolor on Arches, 14" x 10",
Jennie Traill Schaeffer and son, Joel. ©2011.
In our last Newsletter many changes surrounded Jennie and she made a rather large blog post about them. These changes are still progressing around Jennie and her life as well as a change of pace for her art. Deciding it was a good time to mix it up with watercolors the above piece was completed as a collaboration with her son Joel, age 2 1/2. See this work and many more in her Facebook album.
The Mural Of A Life Time
A behind the scenes project that started back in April and kept secret until now! Jennie has been commissioned by St. Joseph's Regional School to paint a mural near their playground area. Roughly a 40 foot by 15 foot mural to be exact. Both the school and Jennie have big plans ahead for this. To read and see more on the mural Jennie has been commissioned visit TraillWorks The Blog.
And She's Back to Herself
Self Portrait, Oil on Panel, 6" x 8" ©2011 Jennie Traill Schaeffer
Hot off the easel, a new self portrait by Jennie! Having not done a self portrait in over 10 years, this little painting presented itself as a real challenge which spanned over several months. Jennie found that the hardest part about this self portrait was painting herself as she truly looks. To view the stages of Jennie's self portrait visit her Facebook album.

Q&A with Karin Lowney-Seed
Just as promised the Q&A continues. This month we have Karin Lowney-Seed.
Q: How did you know you were meant to be an artist?
A: I've always been driving by anything creative. It's what gets me up and going. I'm never bored. It's a passion that won't go away.
Q: Some of the writing in your paintings reminds me of graffiti, was that intentional?
A: Absolutely. For me I never had access to landscape. I couldn't see a landscape and abstract it. It wasn't my thing. In Florida I was on the beach and wanted to be able to paint the water in a different way. I decided to write what I saw. I did 25 to 30 sketches and then I got it. I knew what I had to do.
Q: What inspires your choice of words for these paintings?
A: I write what I see. Its just works written over and over until it becomes a landscape.

Welcome Ashley
TraillWorks is proud to welcome to the team Ashley, our newest intern. Ashley began her internship at the end of June, just as Corrie left for maternity leave. It's been a pleasure to have Ashley on the Traillworks team and when asked why she came seeking an internship here she replied that, "I want to learn how a gallery works." So I say we give her what she wants, lets show her how it all goes down here at TraillWorks! Welcome Ashley!
As for Corrie and her baby: we haven't heard any news yet but hope she has a quick, safe, (and soon) delivery. |

September is Ovarian Cancer awareness month and for the third consecutive year TraillWorks will be turning Spring Street Teal. However, because Jennie will be on vacation at that time she will not be able to put up the ribbons. In her place she has asked Kassandra, TraillWorks's Graphic Designer, to coordinate the event this year. TraillWorks is asking you, our readers, to help hang the ribbons this year. Spring Street isn't such a big street so it should only take about a half an hour to teal the street. If you are interested in volunteering contact TraillWorks at 973-383-1307 or email at jennie@traillworks.com. To read and learn more about this nation wide campaign visit Turn The Towns Teal.
The task of "Tealing" would need to be completed between 8/28 - 9/1 and take down between 9/25-9/30.

The Newton Fire Museum is a treasure to Newton. It is very rare for a town to have a fire museum with many artifacts intact so it is truly something that makes Newton and Spring Street a good place to stop and visit. Stop by on September 24th from 12PM-4PM for the Fire Museums' 175th Anniversary. There will be a guest speaker, one of the first responders from 911. More information to come! "Pebbles & Puddles" and Glass Links
Pebble and Puddles Layer Ring, by Liesl Carlson, $175 ©2011
This is just one of the many new nature-inspired pieces in Liesl Carlson's "Pebbles and Puddles" collection here at TraillWorks. The sterling silver jewelry is hollow-form "puddles" with "pebbles" made from tiny drops of silver. Wearing her jewelry seems to bring you right into a forest by a sparkling little stream, with slick rocks just below the running water. To see more of her work you can find her on the TraillWorks' Facebook page or come on down to TraillWorks.
Dichroic Glass Link Necklace, 16", by Bernadette Blaney, $125
We just had a refreshing visit from fused Dichroic jewelry artist, Bernadette Blaney. She spent the afternoon adding new jewelry; what stood out are her stunning glass link necklaces and bracelets. The necklaces, at 16" long, are short and come in a variety of colors and shapes, linked with sterling silver rings. Paired with a tailored white oxford shirt, her pieces will add artistic flair. Selected pieces of Bernadette's can be seen on TraillWorks' Facebook page.
