Challenges Of A Mural
©2011 Jennie Traill Schaeffer
Progress continues on the biggest commission Jennie has received thus far. As anyone could imagine its come with it's own bumps, hurdles, and obstacles that I'm sure won't stop coming until the mural is completed. However, Jennie has taken each problem with grand stride and forges ahead with full steam. The mural is still on paper in its refining stages but soon will be ready for color! To read more about this mural and the inspiration behind the design check out Jennie's blog here.

Fundamentals of Figure Drawing Workshop
Sept. 25th with Valerie Lalor 10 - 3:30PM
Figure
drawing is a timeless and fundamental method to build perceptual skills
and gaining knowledge on the elements of art: line, value,
shape/volume, texture, and color which lead to the deliberate
manipulation of an image for spatial illusion, composition and
expressive meaning. This workshop will provide beginners an introduction
to figurative drawing, and intermediate and advance students an
opportunity to hone their skills and gain feedback. We will focus on
understanding the proportions of the human body, the basics of anatomy
and movement, and how to begin to capture the form on the page.
A partially clothed model will be provided. No previous experience necessary. Appropriate for Teen to Adult students.

Good Luck Ashley
Ashley Allenfort joined TraillWorks for the summer as an intern from County College of Morris. A former student of Karin Lowney-Seed's, Ashley attended Karin's opening reception and later introduced herself to Jennie and asked about intern opportunities. Ashley has been an invaluable asset, spending the summer assisting in the newsletter creation, implementing those funny digital codes into promo materials, researching artwork reproduction methods and more. We wish her much luck and success as she completes her Associates at CCM and in her application to transfer onto a 4-year university. Pratt is her 1st - choice, with Montclair State as a 2nd.
Corrie, one of my associates currently on maternity leave, finally gave birth on July 31st after her July 24th due date, to a healthy baby girl named Madeline. We wish the entire family much health, happiness and sleep!
Jennie has graciously accepted to be a judge
for this years Peters Valley Craft Fair at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. The fair is on September 24 and 25. To learn more about it and

Several months ago when Paul Meacham of Tri-State Actors Theatre walked in promoting a playreading at a neighboring business, Jennie thought it would be great to host one at TraillWorks. It just so happened, Paul had a play about a woman set to be read in September. She jumped on the opportunity and after offering to host a playreading, Jennie thought this might be a great opportunity to spark art of another kind and organized an annual invitational women's exhibit. Several guest artists, as well as a few new artists, selected by Jennie, have been creating artwork that interprets "Hope Throws Her Heart Away" by Susan Goodell, scheduled for a September 24th performance. The exhibit runs September 17 to November 5 with an opening reception on October 15, 5 to 8PM. To learn more about this exhibit and its companion events visit the TraillWorks site.
Participating artists include:
Brenda Decker - painter, gelatin print artist
Heidi Lanino - painter
Karin Lowney-Seed - painter / collage artist
MarieChristine Murphy - painter
Jennie Traill Schaeffer - painter
Amy Brooks - stained glass artist
Amanda Gordon Miller - printmaker

The Tri-State Actors Theater is coming to TraillWorks! Founded in 1988 by Paul Meacham the Tri-State Actors Theater
began in the specialized training of young performers and presenting
plays for children and families. It has now become a full fledged
regional professional theater company. "Hope
Throws Her Heart Away", by Susan Goodell, will be a live staged concert
reading at TraillWorks on Saturday, September 24th. The show is
performed by three professional actors playing the same character. It
follows a woman's life from a feisty child to a compliant young adult
to, finally, a self-contented woman. With a talk back session and
reception with the Playwright and Actors after the show. To learn more about each actor playing Hope, follow their links below.

September is around the corner and for the third consecutive year TraillWorks will be turning Spring Street Teal for Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. However, because Jennie will be on vacation at that time she will not be able to put up the ribbons. In her place she has asked Kassandra, TraillWorks's Graphic Designer, to coordinate the event this year. TraillWorks is asking you, our readers, to help hang the ribbons this year. Spring Street isn't such a big street so it should only take about a half an hour to teal the street. If you are interested in volunteering contact TraillWorks at 973-383-1307 or email at jennie@traillworks.com. To read and learn more about this nation wide campaign visit Turn The Towns Teal.
The task of "Tealing" would need to be completed between 8/28 - 9/1 and take down between 9/25-9/30. Thank you to artist, MarieChristine Murphy for volunteering her time. One more volunteer to help her would be fantastic!

The
Newton Fire Museum is a treasure to Newton. It is very rare for a town
to have a fire museum with many artifacts intact so it is truly
something that makes Newton and Spring Street a good place to stop and
visit. It is also a great place to bring the kids. Jennie's son, Joel
enjoys the museum so much he's always asking to visit it! Running May
through October with new hours for 2011! Stop by on September 24th from
12PM-4PM for the Fire Museums' 175th Anniversary. There will be a guest
