       Holiday Art

Jennie does it again! The holiday season gets busy for just about everyone for one reason or another and with Jennie it is no different. One event Jennie eagerly awaits is her son, Joel's third birthday on November 7th. Among the other events Jennie is planning for is the holiday exhibit at TraillWorks. Below are two pieces Jennie found time to paint for the exhibit.

      Figure Drawing at TraillWorks

We held another successful figure drawing workshop this past Sunday at TraillWorks. Valerie Lalor returned to instruct a follow-up session to our September workshop. While we had listed in our previous newsletter, several open figure drawing nights for November, we've decided, due to short notice, to delay these until the new year when we have time to properly promote them. So keep your pencils sharpened for news on Open Figure Drawing Sessions in the New Year!

      Welcome Janelle

Meet Janelle Ferraro, TraillWorks' newest intern! A graphic design major from Sussex County Community College, Janelle would like to focus on logo and layout design. At the gallery, Janelle has been focusing on redesigning the logos for Jennie's note cards and finding a new giclée printer for her reproductions. When she's not at TraillWorks or in school, Janelle works at Krave Cafe as assistant to the owner.

"When offered the internship at Trailways with Jennie, I jumped at the opportunity.  I've heard great things about TraillWorks and was excited to learn more from a local business owner/artist. In the few weeks I have been at TraillWorks I have really enjoyed my experience and have met some very passionate people.  I really hope to capture some of that passion and incorporate into my own design career."  - Janelle Ferraro

So welcome and best of luck to Janelle!

TWO Months of Women Artists and COLLABORATIVE WORKS at TraillWorks
Play Reading, 1st Annual Women's Invitational Exhibit,
      & Film Screening Benefit Recap

September through October were two very exciting months at TraillWorks. Three events were all designed around one piece of art, the play "Hope Throws her Heart Away" by Susan Goodell. When opportunity knocks, and it's a good opportunity, Jennie takes it. Tri-State Actors Theater arranged to perform a live play reading of Goodell's play this past September. An entire companion exhibit was created with women's artwork at the forefront. Thirteen artists' works have been on exhibit that visually interpreted the play about a woman trying to find herself. A successful reception was held on October 15th, and congratulations goes to artist, Marie Christine Murphy on her sale.

And on this past Saturday evening, TraillWorks presented Who Does She Think She Is? - a documentary film by Academy Award winning director, Pamela Tanner Boll, that follows the struggles and joys of five women trying to lead creative lives as artists while keeping up as parents and partners. All admission proceeds went to Birth Haven, a local shelter dedicated to helping young mothers in need. Jennie first saw this film about a year ago with artist Martha C. Hall. After seeing the film Jennie knew she had to share it. Following the screening, three artists spoke on a panel about their own struggles and joys of mothering, family and art-making.

The evening was a heart felt success. TraillWorks raised over $60 for Birth Haven which is a great help to young mothers in need. So with the success of this event Jennie hopes to begin planning more soon. If you have any ideas of things you'd like to share at TraillWorks, please send us an email.

You can still catch the women's exhibit through November 5th.

         Spring Street Happenings

Spring Street is becoming a very exciting place to explore and savor. Not only do we have a great gallery, called TraillWorks, but we've got several distinctive boutiques, and now FIVE great restaurants, oh, and a fantastic theater. I've just returned back from dinner at the Plaza Restaurant, newly opened (my third visit in a week - ok one was take-out). I ordered chicken and chorizo paella - DELICIOUS, Joel had spaghetti with marinara sauce, and Lee had a Greek salad. Everything is homemade, and I'm a big marinara critic; I don't like sweet sauce - Frank's sauce is just about perfect! I highly recommend a visit to it or one of the other great dining options available, followed by a show at the Newton Theater, and while you're in town, stop by TraillWorks. We're not open 24 hours a day, but pretty close!

      Spring Street Holiday Parade
       November 26th - 10AM to 1PM

Mark your calendars for this fun filled day. For over 40 years this event has graced Spring Street with its unique floats, spunky marchers, and more. The Holiday Parade returns this year with the theme of Toy Land. Be a participant or come enjoy the atmosphere and see the float winner. To find out more check out their site.

Upcoming Shows at The Newton Theatre

I've had the opportunity to attend two shows at the theatre since its opening: Solas and the Duhks. Both bands were excellent - the sound in the theatre is amazing and tickets are quite affordable. New performances have just been announced for the holidays including a John Denver Christmas. I'll be getting tickets to see Dar Williams on December 1st - maybe I'll see you at the concert. View their schedule at thenewtontheatre.com.
